Homeopathy

This is a deep-acting, holistic and systematic approach to treatment, for both acute and chronic complaints and illnesses. The homeopathic approach originated in the eighteenth century by German physician Dr. Samuel Hahnemann and quickly spread and came to be known as an effective natural approach to healing. Homeopathic medicine is based on the principle that substances that produce symptoms of illness in healthy people will have a curative effect when given in very dilute quantities to those who are ill who exhibit those same symptoms. The homeopathic medicine or remedy is prescribed to match the symptoms and characteristics of the person with the symptoms/illness; in this way it is an individualized approach to health, which is quite different from the current public health based system which tends to give the same type of medicine to a large population of people with the same symptom/illness. For example, someone who has a bad and recurring headache may typically be told to take a generic pain medication; however, in homeopathy, a remedy will be chosen to match the exact manifestation of the headache (eg: is the headache at the front or back of the head, is it throbbing or a sharp pain, is it affected by the weather or noise or emotions…these and other factors help the naturopathic doctor select the correct matching homeopathic remedy for the specific patient and their exact type of headache). Homeopathic medicines stimulate the body’s healing processes and there are minimal if any adverse effects. It is a non-toxic approach that suits all ages and is inexpensive compared to other treatments.
